About Morgan

Morgan is a multimedia artist based in Lewisville, Texas. She originates from west Texas, where she was primarily taught skills in painting. These skills had a significant impact on the work completed at the University of North Texas while completing her undergraduate degree in Studio Art. After obtaining this degree in 2021, Morgan began an administrative role where she learned many of the technological skills that are now used in her art practice.
Morgan has since transitioned to teaching, as an Middle and High School art teacher. She teaches traditional studio art lessons as well as experimental and digital, as she wishes to provide her students with a broad education in the arts. In addition to her BFA, Morgan also holds a minor in Art History which has guided both her teaching and personal art practices. This background is used in her research of the future of art and its influence through the lens of technology.
In 2022, Morgan began her candidacy for a Masters of Fine Arts at the University of New Mexico in the Low-Residency Confluence program.

Artist Statement

I am an art teacher and multimedia artist, with an interest in merging typical studio art mediums and less traditional fields. My background in music, writing, and art history have found their way into my current art-research practice alongside my enthusiasm for the use of spreadsheets. I became proficient in spreadsheets for organization and data analysis over the last few years, and have become dependent on them to track and engage with all facets of my life.

Whether I like it or not, I am a digital native. Enough of my life was done with the assistance and companionship of digital technologies, that it has greatly influenced my art practice. With the rapid growth in these tools and devices, I have been interested in studying the way our dependence has shifted (and will continue to shift) human interaction and the act of art making.

My interest in this type of research has led to the creation of digital tools that reinterpret inputs based on one art piece and output instructions for another. Rather than using AI tools that create a veil between the user and the machine, I have used spreadsheets which provide users with a window into the inner workings - all of the nuts and bolts exposed. The first iteration of this tool took inputs from written letters before providing instructions for a music composition. In recent months, I have begun to expand this tool to take and give a wider array of options. The creation of these tools have provided for a glimpse into the decision making behind existing digital technologies as well as a research opportunity for the future of art with the new digital influences.

Art Events

La Calera - Oaxaca, OAX

January 21, 2023

Alongside her MFA program, Morgan participated in an open house exhibit which took place in a refurbished lime factory, La Calera. Her work was used as an audio and visual backdrop for other performance based artists in the program. Morgan believes this to have been the first time her audio work was shown in a space that it was perceived as intended.

Solo Exhibition - "Seconds Wasted"

Feb 23 - Mar 11 2021

One of nine shows to be chosen for exhibition at the UNT Union Gallery. The work chosen was a part of Morgan's more prominent paintings, sound art, and the tapestry "Color Coded". It highlighted issues within the church that Morgan believes can be solved through more in depth studies of religious texts as well as a re-centered focus on the humanity within prophetic stories.
